Giant, red Target balls subject of premises liability lawsuit

| Jun 10, 2016 | Premises Liability |

Residents of Connecticut may be familiar with the giant, red balls that are present in front of many Target stores across the country. One mother labeled these concrete balls as extreme hazards that attract children, only to cause injuries. This mother filed a premises liability lawsuit against the retailer in another state, seeking $1.6 million.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff’s son scrambled onto one of the concrete balls outside a Target store when he was five years old. While playing around on the ball, the child fell off and suffered serious injuries to his arm. The mother claims her son’s right elbow was shattered, and during subsequent surgery, metal rods and pins had to be installed.

The suit further claims that it is not known how the injury will affect the boy’s motion in the future, stating that there is a possibility of him being physically challenged later in life. For this reason, the boy’s mother is seeking $1.6 million to ensure that all medical needs and disabilities in his future are covered. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of Target in placing the dangerous concrete balls on its premises.

Whenever a person suffers injuries on premises in Connecticut where dangerous situations are allowed to exist, financial relief may be pursued. These cases can prove to be complicated, especially in proving negligence on the part of a property owner or other responsible person. For this reason, many victims of such injuries seek the guidance and support of an experienced premises liability attorney to navigate such lawsuits on their behalves.
