Study finds which state has worst drivers’: Where does Connecticut rank?

From disciplining children in the backseat, texting while driving or going too fast for the conditions, drivers’ make a wide array of decisions while operating their vehicle that can lead to car accidents. Drivers’ who share the roads with those making these poor decisions not only voice frustration, but also can become victims of these accidents.

In an effort to help increase public awareness and reduce the risk of accidents, a study was recently released reviewing which states were home to the worst drivers’ in the nation. Researchers focused on how each state preformed in five different categories: number of fatal accidents for every 100 million miles, tickets for failing to obey various traffic laws like using a seat belt or running a red light, DUI citations, reckless or careless driving tickets and all other tickets. Ultimately, the study, which was conducted by the popular automobile insurance site CarInsuranceComparison.com, found Louisiana ranked highest in the nation.

What does this mean for Connecticut?

Although Louisiana appears the current home to the worst drivers’ in the nation, the study provides lessons for everyone, regardless of the state they live in. Two of the top lessons from the study are:

  • Threat of tickets. Researchers conducting the study noted that states with harsh drunk driving penalties and a higher likelihood of ticketing offenders had fewer offenses. This could mean that the fear of getting a ticket was a sufficient deterrent.
  • Paying attention matters. States that ranked highest for safety had fewer careless driving citations. Often, careless driving citations are connected to the use of a cellphone. It appears this study supports many others, finding drivers who put their cellphones away while driving are less likely to crash.

Connecticut did fairly well in the study, ranking in the top safest states along with Vermont, Utah, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Oregon and Maine. However, even those driving on the streets of Connecticut can find themselves involved in an accident. If you or loved ones are involved in an accident, it is important to know that compensation may be available to help cover the cost of rehabilitation and treatment.

Tips for victims of car accidents in Connecticut

Unfortunately, the victim often has to prove that the other driver is responsible for the accident. There are number of ways to establish this, such as showing evidence of the responsible driver receiving a citation during the accident or referring to a police report. In some cases it is easier to prove the other driver was negligent. This is particularly true if the accident was a rear end collision.

Regardless of the type of accident, those injured would benefit from the guidance of an experienced Connecticut car accident attorney. This legal professional will listen to your case and help increase your chances of successfully establishing the other driver was at fault or negligent and should be held accountable.
