Motorcycle safety is something every rider should be focused on with every ride. While it is important for other vehicles to watch out for you when you are on the road, you also need to do everything possible to keep yourself safe.
If you are a new rider, you may wish to take the Connecticut Rider Education Program for Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course. The Connecticut State Website explains this is a motorcycle safety course you can take before getting your license and with no riding experience.
The course provides you with a motorcycle to use as you work through the program. You will have six hours in the classroom and at minimum 11 hours of riding instruction. Most courses occur in the evenings or weekends.
You must complete all parts of the course to graduate from the program. This includes ensuring you pass the knowledge and skills tests.
Taking the course allows you to skip the skills test to get your license. You will receive an official certificate once you graduate that you will supply to the testing center.
The course will help you learn basic skills for riding a motorcycle and general safety rules. You will also learn about riding in bad weather and gain other knowledge and skills that will help you to be a safe rider.
Some insurance companies may also offer you a discount for completing the course.
If you are new to motorcycles, this course can enable you to get the skills you need to be a good rider and to learn about the machine before you invest in one of your own.
