Though it may still be cool outside, springtime in Connecticut means more residents will be spending time outdoors. Many enjoy bike riding along the local roads, and they are typically aware of the hazards posed by inattentive drivers, which can lead to car accidents. Recently, an accident involving a car caused serious injuries for one biker.
According to the report, a 40-year-old man was riding his bicycle along a local road near an intersection with Route 177 shortly before 10 p.m. As he entered the intersection, he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male. The collision caused the cyclist to suffer what were described as serious injuries.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby medical center. There have been no further details released concerning the nature of his injuries or future prognosis. The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries in the wreck. There were no other passengers in the car with the teen driver.
Connecticut officials are working to complete their investigation through a reconstruction of the accident. At this time, it is unclear whether there will be any criminal charges filed against the driver. Provided he survives his injuries, the cyclist will likely face a long and difficult recovery from his injuries. Whenever residents or visitors to the state suffer serious injuries due to car accidents, they frequently also sustain significant monetary damages because of medical bills, lost wages and other associated costs. If these injuries were the fault of another party through negligence or willful actions, then victims -- or surviving family if the wrecks were fatal -- may seek to recover their financial losses by filing a personal injury or wrongful death civil suit against the parties deemed liable for their documented damages.
