When one hears about a crash involving a single car, many may assume only one family will be affected. Sadly, these types of car accidents can bring tragedy in the lives of multiple families when passengers are not related. One recent wreck in Connecticut resulted in two teens suffering serious injuries.
The crash occurred on a Friday afternoon after two high school football players were returning from a team meeting. At some point, the driver — a 16-year-old male — lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a tree. The impact caused extensive damage to the car, which required careful extrication by emergency crews in order to safely remove both victims.
The 16-year-old was transported to a nearby medical center where he underwent surgery to treat his injuries. He has since been released from inpatient care. His passenger — a 15-year-old boy — suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a pediatric hospital for treatment of a brain injury and collapsed lung. He remains hospitalized but has reportedly shown some improvement.
The Connecticut officials are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not eliminated excessive speed as a factor. While the driver will likely experience a full recovery, it is unknown what long-term impact the younger boy’s injuries will have on his life. Families who find themselves in these terrible circumstances are likely devastated by both their loved one’s physical injuries and by the financial damages that they incur. When these types of car accidents are the result of negligent actions, then victims and their families may seek information from an experienced attorney who can advise them on their options for obtaining compensation for the losses they have sustained.
