Families may seek closure, recompense through wrongful death suit

| Feb 16, 2018 | Wrongful Death |

In the aftermath of a tragic fatal accident, families are often left with feelings of devastating loss. Along with the emotional pain of losing a cherished loved one, there may be the added burden of significant financial damages that accrue in the weeks and months after a fatal crash. One way families may attempt to relieve those monetary burdens and seek at least some sense of closure is through the filing of a wrongful death claim within the Connecticut civil court system.

Recently, two foreign visitors here on business were traveling along a local route in Windsor. As they proceeded toward their afternoon destination, a garbage truck was traveling along the same route. For reasons that are still unclear, the large truck and the smaller passenger car were involved in what appears to have been a head-on crash.

The impact resulted in a 41-year-old passenger suffering critical injuries. She was transported to a local medical center for treatment where she was later pronounced deceased. The 33-year-old car driver also suffered serious injuries, though they are not described as life-threatening. The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries.

The two occupants of the car were in Connecticut from Russia. Officials are still conducting an investigation into this deadly collision and have not yet released any findings relating to what caused the wreck. The injured driver may face a long recovery that may delay the return to Russia. In these unfortunate situations, the surviving families may seek assistance in gathering all pertinent details relating to the cause of these wrecks and whether another party is at fault. When a fatal accident is the result of negligence on the part of another party, the surviving family — and any other injured parties — may seek compensation for their losses through the filing of a wrongful death or personal injury civil lawsuit.
