Investigations for fatal motorcycle accidents may take months

On Behalf of | Dec 22, 2017 | Motorcycle Accidents |

In spite of how fast cases are resolved in television dramas, the wheels of justice generally turn much slower in the real world. It may often take months for law enforcement officials to investigate and announce the findings after deadly motorcycle accidents. Connecticut officials recently brought charges against a driver from an August collision.

According to the report, police announced that they arrested a driver who purportedly swerved across the dividing line of a local roadway into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, a 64-year-old man, died due to the injuries he suffered in the collision. His wife, who was a passenger, was seriously injured in the wreck.

The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old man, and two passengers were not seriously harmed in the accident. Connecticut police have charged the driver with second-degree assault and with failure to maintain proper lane position. He was released after posting a bond of $100,000 and is awaiting further proceedings in this case.

The woman victim is likely still working to recover from the injuries that she suffered while also mourning the loss of her husband. These types of fatal motorcycle accidents take a tragic toll on the lives of victims and surviving family. Along with the physical pain and suffering that surviving victims must endure, there are frequently significant monetary losses. When it is determined that a serious or fatal collision is the fault of another party, the victims — or their loved ones — may seek recovery of their financial damages through the civil courts. An experienced personal injury attorney, who routinely navigates these claims successfully, can provide assistance and guidance throughout the process.
