Man an example of serious injuries caused by motorcycle accidents

Those who choose to travel by motorcycle likely do so for a variety of reasons, including being able to experience the open road without the confines that come with most vehicles. However, as most are aware, even the most diligent rider is much more vulnerable to suffering a serious injury in car versus motorcycle accidents. Another Connecticut family has experienced this firsthand after a loved one suffered serious injuries in a collision.

According to Connecticut State Police, a rider suffered serious injuries in a wreck that occurred on Main Street in Ellington. Details have not been released, but a collision between a passenger vehicle driven by a 66-year-old woman and the 46-year-old motorcyclist resulted in the rider being dislodged from his bike. He landed violently on the road's surface and suffered serious head trauma.

Connecticut officials requested the services of a med vac helicopter, which transported the victim to the nearest trauma center. The driver of the car and the young child who was a passenger in the rear seat were not injured in the collision. It is unclear at this time whether the driver will face any charges related to this wreck.

Officials have not yet completed their investigation. In many cases, these types of motorcycle accidents are the result of errors on the part of the motorist who failed to yield the right-of-way to an oncoming motorcycle. If the victim in this particular wreck survives his injuries, it is possible that he may experience life-long effects due to the trauma his brain has suffered. If the wreck appears to have been the fault of the other driver, he or his family may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. While a lawsuit cannot undo the harm that has been inflicted, a successful claim may allow the victim to recover monetary damages that can help ease the financial stresses that these devastating injuries cause while also providing the means to continue any treatments that may be required throughout the healing process.
