Injuries to the spine are fairly common following an automobile accident. These injuries can vary in severity and there are no guarantees that a full recovery is possible. Connecticut residents who have suffered such injuries in car accidents may be able to seek compensation for their losses through legal means.
Injuries to the spine commonly occur following a traumatic blow to the back. In minor automobile accidents this can cause the spine to go out of alignment, causing damage to the vertebrae, discs and nerves -- usually resulting in pain. In more severe collisions, the damage that may be done will be greatly intensified and can have far more serious consequences.
There are a number of symptoms seen with injuries to the spine including pain, loss of sensation, muscle spasms, breathing difficulties and paralysis. Some of these symptoms may be temporary; however, for some the damage may be permanent. There are a variety of medical treatments that may be implemented to care for spinal cord injuries. These include:
- Electrical stimulation
- Physical rehabilitation
A spinal cord injury can change an accident victim's life and the lives of his or her family members, forever. Even with care and rehabilitation, there are no guarantees that one will fully recover. Connecticut residents who have suffered back injuries in car accidents may choose to seek relief for any damages they have sustained by filing civil claims in court against the parties thought responsible. By successfully litigating personal injury claims, monetary judgments for any financial, physical and psychological damages that are deemed recoverable may be awarded.
